🌊Underwater AI Data Centers

China’s underwater AI push, Google’s most advanced model yet, ChatGPT’s new image editor, and Elon Musk’s bold move with xAI.

Good morning, AI crowd — While the internet’s been busy turning everything into a Ghibli scene, the real breakthroughs this week came in the form of underwater data centers, competitive model upgrades, and a bold step from xAI.

Let’s catch you up.

"We always overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will occur in the next ten."

AI RACE

China Launches Deep-Sea AI Data Center

Source: Arabian Business

China just launched the world’s first commercial underwater data center off the coast of Hainan. It holds the power of 30,000 high-end PCs and can handle 7,000 AI queries every second. Inside: an 18-meter pod with over 400 high-performance servers built for serious AI workloads.

The twist? It’s cooled by seawater — no air conditioning needed. That makes it 40–60% more energy efficient and helps China push toward greener infrastructure. It also hits a PUE (power usage effectiveness) of 1.1, beating the national standard.

Ten companies, including DeepSeek, are already using it. Built by Beijing Highlander, the system can be deployed in 90 days and is located near dense coastal regions for faster, low-latency services. China’s moving fast on AI infrastructure — and going underwater to do it. If it proves effective, other countries may follow — potentially leading to faster, cheaper AI services for everyone.

GEMINI

Google’s Most Advanced Reasoning Model Yet

Source: Google Deepmind

Gemini 2.5 Pro just dropped — and it might be the strongest reasoning model out right now. It thinks step-by-step, handles text, code, audio, video, and images, and it’s outperforming OpenAI and Anthropic on key benchmarks. A 2 million token context window is on the way, letting it process way more at once. It's already live in Google AI Studio and the Gemini app, with Vertex AI coming soon.

One of the wildest demos? Gemini built a working video game from a single prompt — no extra instructions, just clean output. Google’s clearly pushing Gemini into serious multitool territory.

ChatGPT just dropped Image Editor

Source: OpenAI

OpenAI is rolling out a new image editing feature in ChatGPT that lets you modify AI-generated images directly. You can select parts of an image and describe changes like adding, removing, or adjusting objects — all within the app. Some users already have access, but it's gradually rolling out to more.

How to Use It:

  • Click on an image you generated in ChatGPT.

  • Select “Edit” to open the editor.

  • Use the selection tool to highlight what you want to change, or describe it in the chat.

  • Type your prompt (e.g., “Make the car blue” or “Add a cat”).

  • Hit Save to download the edited image.

ELON MUSK

xAI acquires X in all-stock deal

Source: Reuters

Elon Musk announced that xAI has officially acquired X in an all-stock deal, valuing xAI at $80B and X at $33B (after $12B in debt). Launched in 2023, xAI has grown fast with projects like Grok, while X has over 600M users. The merger brings together data, models, compute, and distribution — setting the stage for new AI-driven experiences across the platform.

What this could mean for users:

  • AI-powered search and content summaries

  • Smarter recommendations and feeds

  • In-app AI agents or assistants

  • Better content moderation using xAI models

  • A step toward turning X into an AI-driven everything app
