🦾No Data Needed: This New AI Model Taught Itself and Excelled
+ OpenAI drops a coding agent inside ChatGPT, UAE teams up with the U.S. to build an AI mega-cluster, and the United Nations pushes back on AI-powered weapons

AI doesn’t need us anymore.
A new AI model called Absolute Zero Reasoner taught itself to reason from scratch without any training data and still outperformed top benchmarks. The research comes out of China, led by teams at Tsinghua University and BIGAI. OpenAI, meanwhile, just rolled out Codex, a powerful new coding agent built right into ChatGPT.
In the Middle East, the U.S. is backing a massive AI supercluster in the UAE, aiming to turn the region into a global compute hub. And the United Nations is calling for urgent rules before AI-powered weapons make life-or-death decisions without humans.
Let’s get into it.
"The development of full artificial intelligence could spell the end of the human race. It would take off on its own, and re-design itself at an ever-increasing rate."

Absolute Zero Reasoner
AI Learns to Think on Its Own Without Human Input
Led by researchers from Tsinghua University and the Beijing Institute for General Artificial Intelligence (BIGAI) have introduced Absolute Zero Reasoner (AZR) — a breakthrough training method where an AI model teaches itself entirely without being given training data. AZR builds its reasoning skills through a self-play loop: it creates its own logic tasks, solves them, and verifies results using a built-in Python code executor. This “zero-data” approach marks a major shift in how AI systems can be trained.
💡 What Makes AZR Different:
Self-Play Learning Loop: AZR acts as both the problem setter and solver, generating reasoning challenges and learning by trial and error.
Zero Human Supervision: No external datasets or human-labeled examples are used. Learning is entirely self-driven.
Benchmark-Beating Results: Despite no training data, AZR outperforms models trained on curated datasets by up to +10.2% in math and coding tasks.
Verifiable Feedback: A built-in code executor validates both the tasks and solutions, enabling grounded, reward-based learning,
Emergent Behaviors: During training, the model exhibited unexpected prompts and novel reasoning patterns.
Open-Source Release: All code, logs, training tools, and checkpoints are freely available to the public.
This may be the beginning of artificial intelligence learning on its own terms, with no data, no limits, and no oversight. If machines can teach themselves to reason, progress will accelerate rapidly, but so will the risk of losing control. The real question is not what AI can do, but who decides what it should do.

OpenAI Unveils Codex — A Full-Stack AI Coding Assistant
OpenAI just launched Codex, a powerful new AI coding agent now built directly into ChatGPT. This isn’t just code autocomplete — Codex can handle entire development tasks for you, from writing features and fixing bugs to running tests and proposing pull requests.
It’s now live for ChatGPT Pro, Team, and Enterprise users, with support for Plus and Edu coming soon.
🔑 Key Features
Multi-tasking agent that works across multiple prompts in parallel
Cloud sandbox environments preloaded with your codebase
Powered by codex-1, a model fine-tuned for real-world software engineering
Terminal access to run tests, linters, and type checkers
Traceable outputs via logs, test results, and change citations
Customizable setup through Agents.md files to guide how it interacts with your repo
💻 What You Can Do With It
Assign tasks like “add a feature,” “fix this bug,” or “explain this file”
Ask repo-specific questions with context
Watch Codex run tests, fix errors, and show every step it took
Export changes as GitHub pull requests or integrate directly
Codex pushes AI from being a helper to becoming a hands-on teammate. It understands your codebase, reasons through changes, and cites its actions — giving developers a full-stack assistant inside ChatGPT. As AI agents take on real software tasks, transparency and safe integration are no longer optional. They’re essential.

U.S. Is Building a Middle East AI Powerhouse
President @realDonaldTrump views the UAE-US AI Cluster presentation 🇺🇸🇦🇪
— Margo Martin (@MargoMartin47)
5:09 PM • May 15, 2025
Following last week’s $600 billion Saudi–U.S. investment deal that pumped billions into American AI infrastructure, the U.S. has quietly advanced a second front — this time with the United Arab Emirates. The two nations just unveiled plans for a 5-gigawatt AI supercluster in Abu Dhabi, designed to become one of the world’s largest AI data hubs.
🏗️ What the Partnership Entails:
Construction of a 10-square-mile AI campus in Abu Dhabi
Annual import of up to 500,000 Nvidia H100 chips under newly lifted U.S. export restrictions
Power supplied by a mix of nuclear, solar, and gas energy
Data center built to support large-scale model training and deployment
Designed to reach nearly half the world’s population within a low-latency range
This move is separate from the Saudi deal, but it’s part of the same playbook. The U.S. is now co-developing massive compute infrastructure across key Middle Eastern allies to compete with China’s AI dominance and ensure AI development aligns with Western values. The region is rapidly transforming into a critical AI corridor, flush with energy, capital, and now U.S. technology.
Global Affairs
United Nations Just Issued a Global Warning About AI Weapons
The United Nations held an emergency session this week — not about climate, not about politics — but about AI-powered weapons that can kill without human input.
As AI continues to advance, militaries are racing to deploy autonomous drones and war machines that can make life-or-death decisions on their own. For the first time, the UN is drawing a line: we need global rules before this gets out of hand.
🔍 Core Takeaway
These are weapons that can select and strike targets using artificial intelligence, without any human pressing the trigger.
The UN is not anti-AI, but it's sounding the alarm on AI in warfare with no accountability or oversight.
Global leaders are being pushed to create binding international rules by 2026 — but powerful nations like the U.S., China, and Russia are resisting.
Without regulation, we’re headed toward an AI arms race where machines decide who lives and dies.
💡 Why It Matters
AI isn’t just writing essays or generating art…it’s embedded in weapons. And unlike humans, these systems don’t weigh ethics, context, or consequence. If we don’t draw clear boundaries, AI won’t just power the next wave of technology — it could drive the next war.
