+ Andrej Karpathy calls out Sam Altman, Google's Veo 3.1 takes AI video to the next level, and Kayak launches an AI Mode for travel planning

AI didn’t just join the newsroom this week; it took it over.
A new study, More Articles Are Now Created by AI Than Humans, from Graphite, an SEO analytics firm, found that AI now writes more web articles than humans—showing just how fast automated content is taking over online publishing.
In an interview with Dwarkesh Patel, OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy said AI agents aren’t yet capable of working independently, pushing back on Sam Altman’s “year of agents” narrative.
Google DeepMind upgraded its video model with Veo 3.1—a step toward production-ready filmmaking with native audio, smooth continuity, and real editing control inside Flow. And Kayak launched an AI Mode that lets travelers plan, search, and book trips through natural-language chat.
Let’s get into it.
“We shape our tools and thereafter our tools shape us.”

AI Writes More Articles Than Humans
A new analysis from Graphite, an SEO growth agency specializing in AI-powered search, evaluated over 600 publications and 65,000 English-language web articles published between 2020 and 2025. It found that by November 2024, AI-generated writing briefly surpassed human-written content in total volume.
🧠 Key Takeaways
The surge: AI-generated articles rose sharply after ChatGPT’s debut in 2022, hitting parity with human output by late 2024.
The sample: 65k URLs from Common Crawl across 600 domains, analyzed using Surfer’s AI-detector (>50% AI text = AI-written).
The plateau: Growth has since leveled off — AI output remains high but isn’t accelerating.
Search visibility: ~86% of top-ranking Google results and 82% of chatbot citations still come from human-written pages.
Detection limits: ~4% false positives, <1% false negatives — AI-assisted and edited pieces aren’t fully captured.
Signal gap: Most AI content floods long-tail niches; human journalism still dominates reach and trust.
🔎 Why It Matters
The web now runs on machine output, but not machine influence. AI may out-publish humans, yet it still struggles to out-rank or out-impact them. For creators and publishers, success shifts from volume to authority and originality — unique data, credible sources, and real perspective. The age of cheap content has arrived, but attention still belongs to those who earn it.

AI Agents
Andrej Karpathy calls out Sam Altman’s agent hype
In a new long-form interview with Dwarkesh Patel — host of The Dwarkesh Podcast and one of tech’s sharpest interviewers — Andrej Karpathy (former OpenAI founding member and Tesla AI director) challenges the narrative that AI agents are ready to change everything this year. His message: we’re moving fast, but not that fast. The talk instantly went viral across X and Reddit, where clips were framed as a direct counter to Sam Altman’s “2025 = year of agents” mantra.
⚙️ Core Insights
Agents aren’t ready. This is the decade of agents, not the year — still too unstable for autonomy.
LLM flaws persist. Hallucinations, weak memory, and broken long loops remain unsolved.
RL is broken. Reinforcement learning can’t yet produce consistent, safe behavior.
Learn like humans. Progress will come from richer, human-style learning signals.
No sudden AGI moment. It’ll fade in through gradual economic impact, not a single event.
Hype meets history. Self-driving’s slow grind mirrors what’s coming for agents.
Education evolves. AI becomes the tutor, not the teacher — guided augmentation over automation.
Karpathy’s stance is the most credible pushback yet from inside OpenAI’s original circle. It reframes “agents” as a long game of trust and control, not a 2025 product launch. For builders, the takeaway is precision over hype — tight scopes, human oversight, and measurable reliability win. The agent race will reward those who build useful, not just autonomous, systems.

ALPHA DROP
(Where we spotlight one powerful tool or feature to help you stay ahead.)
Google DeepMind: Veo 3.1
Google just gave its video model a professional upgrade. Veo 3.1 brings real directorial control — sharper visuals, richer sound, and editing tools that finally make AI video production feel intentional. Inside Flow, you can now extend scenes, match continuity, and build fully-sounded clips without ever leaving the workspace.
⚙️ What’s New
Native, synchronized audio now generates with every video in Flow.
Scene Extension chains clips into continuous, minute-long shots with consistent sound.
Reference-based control: feed multiple images or define start + end frames for guided transitions.
Edit inside the timeline: Insert new elements, remove clutter, and preserve lighting + shadows.
Higher fidelity: tighter prompt adherence, more detail, smoother motion — plus a new Fast mode for quicker renders through Gemini API or Vertex AI.
💡 What You Can Use It For
Create short dialogue scenes with ambient sound and natural pacing.
Extend product or cinematic shots into cohesive sequences.
Keep characters or styles consistent across multiple clips.
Clean up footage instantly — no reshoots or manual edits.
Build full video pipelines from storyboard → scene → extend → export, right inside Flow.
Veo 3.1 marks the moment AI filmmaking becomes practical. Audio is no longer an afterthought, editing happens in real time, and control shifts from prompt guessing to creative intent. For studios and solo creators alike, this update means one thing: you can finally produce finished work, not just generate clips.

AI Travel
Kayak Launches “AI Mode” for Travel Planning
Kayak just rolled out AI Mode, a conversational interface that lets users ask natural questions like “Where should I go for a long weekend in November under $800?” and instantly get trip ideas, flight options, and booking links in one thread. It’s powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o, layered with Kayak’s pricing, destination, and availability data. The mode lives on Kayak’s website and app, switching the traditional search bar into a chat-style assistant for planning, comparing, and booking in real time.
The launch positions Kayak as one of the first major travel platforms to fully merge search, discovery, and checkout through a single AI interface—right as competitors like Expedia, Google Travel, and Trip.com experiment with similar tech. For users, it hints at a near future where every trip starts with a conversation, not a destination box.
