🧭 AI Is Changing How We Start Careers

+ OpenAI teams up with Apple’s former design chief to build AI hardware, Opera’s AI browser agent does the work for you, and the UAE gives ChatGPT Plus to all residents

In partnership with

From workforce shakeups to global partnerships, AI is shifting from interface to infrastructure.

New research from the World Economic Forum shows a sharp decline in entry-level tech jobs as companies turn to AI to handle tasks that once taught junior talent. OpenAI is moving beyond software, partnering with Apple’s legendary designer Jony Ive to build the hardware future of AI.

Opera just unveiled Opera Neon, an agent browser that codes, books a trip, and builds for you while you sleep. And the UAE? It’s giving every citizen free access to ChatGPT Plus.

Let’s get into it.

"What it means to use technology can change in a profound way. I hope we can bring some of the delight, wonder and creative spirit that I first felt using an Apple Computer 30 years ago."

How AI Is Quietly Rewriting the Tech Job Market

Source: SignalFire

According to new research from SignalFire and the World Economic Forum, the shift is no longer theoretical: AI is quietly replacing people—and it’s starting at the bottom. The first rung of the tech career ladder is disappearing. Entry-level roles are being cut as AI handles the exact tasks that used to train junior talent—debugging, research, QA, data prep. Companies aren’t pausing to rethink. They’re hiring mid-level engineers or skipping the role entirely. The result? Fewer interviews. Fewer offers. A broken entry point into the industry.

šŸ“‰ What the Data Shows

  • 25% drop in Big Tech new grad hiring (2024 vs. 2023)

  • 50%+ drop from pre-pandemic levels (2019)

  • New grads now just 7% of Big Tech hires

  • 30% increase in unemployment for new grads since 2022

  • 37% of managers say they’d rather use AI than hire Gen Z

  • 40% of employers plan to reduce staff where AI can automate tasks (WEF 2025)

  • 49% of U.S. Gen Z say AI has made their degree feel less valuable (WEF 2025)

šŸ” The Deeper Shift

This isn’t just a change in hiring, it’s a shift in how companies build their future.
By skipping the early-career layer, teams risk losing the next generation of thinkers, builders, and problem-solvers. If talent has nowhere to start, the entire pipeline begins to shrink. AI might handle the work, but it won’t replace the perspective, growth, or resilience that comes from learning on the job. Tech needs more than output. It needs development.

OpenAI

Jony Ive + OpenAI Might Be the iPhone Moment for AI Hardware

OpenAI just made a $6.5 billion move to acquire io, a stealth AI hardware startup led by \, the legendary designer behind the iPhone, iMac, and Apple Watch. The deal also brings in Ive’s design firm, LoveFrom, which will now shape the look, feel, and form of OpenAI’s future consumer products. When the architect of Apple’s most iconic devices teams up with the company behind ChatGPT, it’s not just a collaboration—it’s a signal. OpenAI is no longer satisfied with being the engine behind AI. It wants to define how we interact with it.

🧠 Who Is Jony Ive—and Why This Deal Matters

  • Ive was Apple’s lead product designer for nearly 30 years, shaping the iPhone, iMac, MacBook, iPod, and Apple Watch

  • In 2019, he left Apple and co-founded LoveFrom, a design studio with deep ties to Apple’s industrial design legacy

  • io, his AI hardware startup, had been operating in stealth, reportedly prototyping a screenless, ambient AI device

  • OpenAI’s $6.5B acquisition brings that vision in-house, with Ive and his team now working directly with Sam Altman

🚨 What They’re Building

While details are still under wraps, here’s what’s being explored:

  • A new AI-native device that lives outside of your phone or laptop

  • Voice-first interaction, real-time summarization, object recognition, and task management

  • A screenless or minimal-screen form factor—designed to reduce distraction, not add to it

  • A next-gen AI assistant that feels invisible, ambient, and intuitive

This could be the moment AI hardware finds its design breakthrough.
With Ive's track record and OpenAI’s tech, this partnership has the potential to define a new category of consumer devices—one that moves beyond screens and puts ambient AI into daily life.

For the industry, it’s also a warning shot: OpenAI isn’t content staying behind the scenes. If they nail this, they’ll shift from powering the AI ecosystem to owning how we experience it.

ALPHA DROP

The Browser Agent That Thinks for You Is Finally Here

Opera just dropped a browser built for the agent era. Opera Neon reimagines the browser as a personal digital operator. It can book trips, fill out forms, generate websites, write code, summarize content, and even play games—all from a prompt. Built around three AI-powered modes—Chat, Do, and Make—Neon shifts the browser from a passive tool to an active assistant. The core idea? You don’t navigate the web. Your browser does it for you.

🧪 What’s New in Opera Neon

  • Three AI-powered modes:

    • Chat: A smart assistant for live search, web summaries, and Q&A

    • Do: A task agent that automates actions—filling forms, booking trips, shopping

    • Make: A creative engine that can code websites, build games, and generate full reports via a cloud-based VM

  • Offline task execution:
Neon keeps working on your tasks even if your laptop is closed

  • Multitask ready:
Queue multiple AI actions to run in parallel from the sidebar

  • Subscription model:
Neon is currently on a waitlist. Pricing and full release details are TBD

🧠 What You Can Actually Do with Neon

Neon’s AI agents let you:

  • Ask questions and get live, in-browser answers

  • Manage tabs (pin, group, close) through simple prompts

  • Generate or analyze images from text or uploads

  • Chat in 50+ languages, voice included

  • Build websites, games, and dashboards—just describe what you want

  • Complete tasks like filling forms, booking trips, and signing up—automatically

The ā€˜Do’ agent acts like a smart assistant that understands web pages, clicks buttons, and finishes workflows for you.

šŸ’” Why It Matters

Neon reimagines the browser as a digital assistant, not just a tool. It can fill forms, book trips, build websites, and run tasks for you, based on a simple prompt. This matters because it shifts the browser from something you control to something that works for you. If it delivers, it could streamline everyday tasks and reset expectations for what browsers should do.

UAE Becomes First Country to Offer Free ChatGPT Plus Access

Source: MSN

The United Arab Emirates has partnered with OpenAI to provide free ChatGPT Plus subscriptions to all residents, becoming the first country in the world to do so. This move is part of a broader collaboration that includes the launch of Stargate UAE, a major AI infrastructure project in Abu Dhabi. The facility will host one of the world’s largest AI supercomputing clusters, with an initial 200 megawatts expected online by 2025.

The partnership is part of OpenAI’s new ā€œOpenAI for Countriesā€ initiative, aimed at helping governments deploy AI responsibly and at scale. Alongside free access to GPT-4, the UAE plans to invest up to $10 billion domestically and match it with equal investment in the U.S. The deal positions the UAE as a rising force in global AI—and may pressure other nations, including India, to follow suit.
